Just A Few Things That I've Built...
|
After taking measurements from an instrument in the Florida State University collections, I decided to try and build a Venezuelan harp, or "arpa llanera." The arch and column are made from maple, while the soundboard is from spruce. The body is made from plywood, poplar, red oak, and some walnut for accents and binding. This build was extra challenging, since I don't play harp and have had very limited exposure to the instrument. Despite this, I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Sikus and Siku Method Book
In January of 2024, I designed and built a set of 24 Andean-style panpipes (sikus) for a Florida State University world music performing group. Later, as part of a class project, I wrote a booklet to serve as a DIY guide to those who might be interested in exploring the Andean sikureada tradition. The Sikuri's Cookbook includes a short introduction, some pedagogical notes, a sampling of sheetmusic, and my construction process for building the instruments. Please click on the image of "The Sikuri's Cookbook" for a link to my Google drive, where you can access the booklet and some sheet music for sikus.
